Season 3, Episode 9: EXTRAORDINARY MERRY CHRISTMAS

The episode opens with Mercedes decorating a tree and singing "All I Want For Christmas Is You." The rest of the Glee kids join her as they dance and decorate the choir room. Rachel gives Finn a Christmas list with 15 items on it. She tells him to chose five things from it. Finn thinks that material items isn't what Christmas is about. Sue tells Kurt, Artie and Blaine that she is volunteering at the homeless shelter on Friday and wants them to put on a show. They don't believe her at first, but eventually agree to help after she explains it is her first Christmas without her sister and is trying to distract herself. Rory tells the guys that his mother isn't able to come visit this Christmas. He sings "Blue Christmas." After having a depressing Christmas the previous year, Rachel and Tina want them to focus on the pageantry. Will tells them that PBS wants them to perform on its Christmas special this year. Sam and Rory talk about how tough it is to be away from family. Sam invites him to his home and agrees to be his Christmas sponsor. Artie tells the PBS rep his two demands are that Star Wars be a part of the show and it be done in black and white. It will be an homage to a Judy Garland Christmas special. He agrees, as long as it's done on the cheap. Rachel sings "River" as a kind of audition for Artie. Artie finds it's too depressing and says it doesn't fit his vision, which is of an evening in Blaine and Kurt's chalet. He wants fun. Sam doesn't agree with over-the-top, cheesy Christmas and leaves to go work a Salvation Army bucket. Rachel drops another hint about her present. Finn gives her a card describing a pig he's bought in her name that will feed a hungry family for a month. She's not impressed, and wants him to stick to the list. Rachel and Blaine sing "Extraordinary Merry Christmas" and Artie is impressed. Sue drops by and says everybody at the shelter is excited about the show on Friday. They say it will conflict from their PBS special. They won't be doing it that night, and remind Sue how awful she's been to them in the past. None of the glee club members feel bad about this except for Quinn and Sam. We get an intro for the "Glee Club Holiday Spectacular," directed by Artie and brought to us by Breadstix. The show opens with Blaine and Kurt at home singing "Let It Snow." Kurt then addresses himself and Blaine to a live audience. Rachel and Mercedes show up with gifts. Kurt gets a knock-off Liz Taylor necklace and Blaine a bow tie with Capri pants. Rachel talks about the best parts of Christmas not being purchasable and the foursome breaks into "My Favorite Things." After a message from the sponsors Finn and Puck drop by. The gang tells them they're worried Santa won't be coming due to climate change. Finn and Puck respond with "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town." Mike, Brittany, Tina and Santana drop by with some back-up dancers and sing "Christmas Wrapping." Rory drops by dressed as Itchy the Christmas elf and instead of reading Frosty The Snowman he reads a Biblical passage about Christ's birth to remind them what Christmas is supposed to be about. At the soup kitchen Quinn tells Sam she's doing better. He says he's glad she turned it around. The others stop by with food and the tree. They said Rory helped them see the light. The whole group performs "Do They Know It's Christmas?" which makes the children happy. In school Rachel tells Finn she named her pig Barbara, after her hero. She says she's sorry and all that matter is that she loves him. He says he got her something else and hands her a piece of paper that says he's named a star after himself, because she's already one and whenever she is lonely she can look up at him. He gives her a small box with a pair of earrings. She says it's time she starts giving back and they leave. They go to Sam and Rory who are working for the salvation army to raise money. They donate hundreds of dollars after taking back the ear rings and the ipod Rachel got Finn. They then join in and help Sam and Rory raise money after realising that Christmas is more than just material things.

Season 3, Episode 9: HOLD ON TO SIXTEEN

Quinn tells Rachel she plans to get Shelby fired by exposing her affair with Puck. Rachel points out that since Puck is 18 what they are doing isn't illegal. Quinn hints that the goal is to have Shelby to lose custody of Beth. Rachel thinks this would be her hitting rock-bottom. Will and Finn look at songs for sectionals, which for the first time since the '60s will be held at McKinley. Finn thinks they need to figure out a new singer and suggests going after Sam, who now lives in Kentucky. While Kurt and Blaine have coffee they are approached by Sebastian. The Warblers have won their sectional already. When Blaine leaves the table Sebastian and Kurt admit their mutual dislike and Sebastian says he's planning on taking Blaine from him by the end of the school year. Finn and Rachel go looking for Sam and see that he's a male stripper. Backstage he tells them this is the best-paying job he can find and his parents have no idea. They ask him to come back to McKinley in time for sectional. He says his dad won't allow it. Sam takes Rachel and Finn to his house and asks for permission. Sam says he misses being a teenager and his parents say he can go. Sam returns to the New Directions choir room. He grabs his guitar and sings "Red Solo Cup." Santana walks in afterwards and makes jokes about his mouth. Quinn puts the moves on Sam. He tells her to enjoy her senior year and not try to grow up faster than she needs to. Mike tells Tina he's applied to the Pre-Med program at Stanford, primarily because his dancing is tearing his family apart. She tries to convince him to stick to his dream and he pushes away. Puck tells Will he doesn't think they have much chance to win sectional without the girls. Sam tries to convince them they should push sex in their dance moves. This causes a rift between him and Blaine, who says he isn't for sale. Blaine and Finn start to bury the hatchet. Finn wants to make sure they do everything they can to win, without any regrets. It seems to work. Mercedes tells Sam that they had a summer fling, but it's over. She reminds him she has a new, very large boyfriend. He says he's going to fight for her and we see her smile as she walks away. Tina goes to see Mike's father. She brings him a bootleg DVD of his son's performance in West Side Story. He tries to tell her that the path of performer is going to be filled with difficulty and limited opportunity. She says she's well-aware of the challenges but it's something she and Mike were born to do. She thinks he should help his son honor his gift. Before New Directions goes on stage for sectionals the Trouble Tones come to see them. Santana says she has talked Shelby into letting New Directions them join them for regionals if they lose. Will doesn't like it because it seems like they are rubbing in the fact that they have a better shot of winning. The competition starts and The Unitards perform first. Rachel and Kurt realise the lead singer who is singing "Buenos Aires" is Harmony from the NYADA mixer at the start of the year. At the end of the performance, Quinn leave the auditorium. Rachel chases Quinn down in the hall and tries to stop her from telling Figgins about Shelby. She wants her to at least wait until the Trouble Tones perform, or short of that give Shelby the courtesy of telling her first. Rachel knows first-hand that doing the wrong thing feels awful. Quinn tells Shelby what she's going to do. Shelby tells Quinn that all of a sudden she'll find her youth has passed her by. The Trouble Tones perform. Santana and Mercedes lead them in "Survivor/ I Will Survive" The crowd loves it. New Directions starts with The Jackson 5's "ABC." During the performance Mike sees his father in the crowd. Kurt also sees that Sebastian is in the audience. They then sing Janet Jackson's "Control" and Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror." Afterwards Mike's dad rises to his feet in applause and Quinn gives Puck a hug. Backstage New Directions celebrate. Finn and Blaine hug. Mike's dad asks to speak with Mike and Tina. He tells Mike he thinks that Mikes path is dancing and he must follow it. He wants Mike to apply to dance schools and they embrace. Mike thinks he's missed the deadlines but Tina says she sent in his applications just in case. The judges announce that The Unitards came first place, Harmony is happy that she is only a sophomore and already this good. They then announce that second place is the Troubletones and first place is New Directions. Quinn tells Rachel she's not going to tell Figgins about Shelby and Puck. She loves Beth and doesn't want to ruin her life. She thanks Rachel for helping her make the right choice. Quinn is thinking about applying to Yale's drama school. Quinn talks to Mercedes, Britney and Santana about losing things. She says that in six months everything will be different and she doesn't want to grow up just yet. Quinn says that both Will and Rachel have agreed to let them sing lead on at least one number per competition. New Directions is performing a victory number and she asks them to join them. Mercedes, Santana, Britney and Sugar join New Directions and together they perform "We Are Young."

Season 3, Episode 7: I KISSED A GIRL

Figgins tries to suspend Santana for two weeks after she slapped Finn. She's upset because that means she'll miss Sectionals. At the last minute, Finn lies to Figgins and says it was actually a stage slap, saving her from suspension. After the meeting, Finn tells Santana he thinks she acts out because she she's not being honest with herself. He gives two options: return to New Directions for the week for a special lesson or be suspended. Rachel is desperate to help Kurt win senior class president, but he's currently trailing Brittany in the polls by 17 points. Since he won't get into NYADA without winning, he tells Rachel he's considering cheating. Finn wants the week to be dedicated to Lady Music Week, songs by ladies and for ladies. The idea is for Santana to know they have a group of people who supports her. Kurt and Blaine sing "Perfect" in honor of Santana. This does not make her feel better. Sue writes in her journal about her campaign being in trouble. She's straight, but the attack ad about her being gay could sabotage her chances. She needs to make it clear she's straight. She consults her book of past booty calls, where she finds the perfect man. Will and Emma offer to help Beiste count the election votes. She talks about how great her relationship with Cooter is going. Puck sings "I'm the Only One" and tells Santana it was for her, despite his frequently looking at Shelby throughout the performance which Quinn suspiciously notices. She asks him if he wants to come over and have sex with her that weekend. He turns her down, saying she's selfish and crazy. Finn tells Santana he's worried about what could happen to her if she isn't honest with who she is. He says her being his 'first' means something and he doesn't want anything to happen to her. Finn and the New Directions boys sing a slowed down version of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". Santana seems reflective during the song and thanks Finn afterwards, therefore reconciling the two. While picking up a preposterous order of chicken, Beiste sees Sue sitting with Cooter. Sue calls it a date and says he's been her regular booty call for decades. When Beiste seems upset, Cooter says he didn't think she was interested. He says he isn't looking for a buddy. The day of the election for both congress and senior class president arrives and Kurt has many concerns. In the voting booth, Kurt thinks his whole career depends on whether he wins. The Congressional voting is being held there as well, meaning Beiste has to watch Cooter with Sue. Beiste sings "Jolene." After the commercial airs, the sophomore rugby captain, Josh Coleman, tries to tell Santana he can make her normal. All the Glee girls come to her defense and sing Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl." Santana tells New Directions she told her parents who were okay with it and the only person left to tell is her grandmother. Figgins calls Kurt and Burt into his office. He says there was an irregularity with the votes. There ended up being more ballots than there are seniors. Kurt admits he thought about cheating, but didn't end up doing so. Kurt tells Rachel and Finn he's lost the election and may end up being suspended. After he leaves, Rachel tells Finn it was her. He tells Rachel she has to tell Figgins she was the one who cheated. Puck gets a call from Shelby. Beth slipped and cut her lip. Puck insists a plastic surgeon fix her. This leads to Shelby and Puck hooking up. Afterwards, she says it was a mistake. Puck is pissed when she tells him to leave, calling her a coward. Santana tells her grandmother that she is a lesbian and explains how Britney makes her finally feel that thing called love and she is tired of fighting with herself everyday and she doesn't want to hide it anymore. Santana's grandmother takes the news badly and calls her selfish, saying that it is a sin not because she has done it but because she has spoken of it and it should have been kept a secret. Santana's grandmother tells her to leave and that she doesn't want to see her again. Santana is devastated. Puck and Quinn start to fool around. When he says he doesn't have protection, she doesn't seem to care. She seems to want them to make another baby. Puck points out they just spent a week helping Santana and nobody has taken the same time to help her. He tells her she doesn't need a baby or a man to be special. Quinn accepts this on the condition he lies down with her and holds her. He does so and confesses his fling and feelings for Shelby. Burt won the election. Sue finished third. Beiste walks in and confronts Sue and Cooter. Cooter tells Beiste he has feelings for both her and Sue. Beiste says she's in love with him and will do anything to win him back. Will and Shelby tell the kids they are proud of them and look forwards to Sectionals. Kurt stands up and sincerely congratulates Brittany for her win. Blaine tells Kurt they'll figure something out to get him into NYADA. Santana stands up and performs "Constant Craving" with parallels of Shelby, Kurt and Rachel also singing. After the song, Rachel comes into the room with tears in her eyes. She tells everyone she confessed to rigging the election and apologises to Kurt. She says she has been punished by being suspended for a week, the incident going on her permanent record and she is not allowed to perform at Sectionals.

NEXT EPISODE: Hold On To Sixteen- It's New Directions verses The Troubletones as Sectionals arrives. Finn and Rachel track down their old friend, Sam Evans to help them win. Quinn struggles to accept not getting Beth back which jeopardises New Directions chances of winning.

Season 3, Episode 6: MASH OFF

The episode opens with Puck speaking in voice over that he's in love with Shelby and wants to make it work. Puck talking about his fourth period Geometry with Shelby leads to a performance of "Hot for Teacher." Rachel disapproves of the subject matter. Puck assures Will he just digs Van Halen. We see one of Sue's ridiculous political ads attacking Burt. Will is frustrated by her tactics. Kurt is upset by Brittany's class president campaign and Sue's dirty campaigning against Burt. Sue thinks he should start slinging mud. Both of McKinley's choirs have drawn the same Sectionals competition. Will and Shelby think they should channel the competitive spirit of the two teams. New Directions and The Troubletones are summoned to the auditorium. The two clubs start bickering until Will and Shelby come out singing a mash-up of Lady Gaga's "You and I" and Eddie Rabbitt's "You and I". The point is combining two conflicting things can be nice. They want each group to but together a mash-up, with the idea to have a Mash Off. Shelby tells Puck it isn't a good idea for them to be together. He says he's in love with her and has compiled a three-reason list: "You're hot." "I'm hot." and he wants a father figure for Beth and why not her real father. She struggles to be convincing, as she thinks it's a crush he'll get over. Finn thinks New Directions should mash up Hall & Oates (one of the few musical groups that stuck together through thick and thin) and wants to give Rory the solo. Rory is at first nervous. Blaine assures him it's perfect. Quinn is pushing Puck about getting Beth from Shelby. Quinn tells Shelby she wants to join The Troubletones. Shelby says she'll think about it. Finn tries to get Rory into trash talking The Troubletones, mostly Santana, which leads to an after school dodge ball challenge. Rachel wants Shelby to sign a letter of recommendation she wrote for herself for NYADA. Shelby signs it and tells Rachel she is proud of her. Rachel suggests maybe Shelby will want to write the letter herself and is stunned when Shelby tells her that other kids without her resume don't have a chance in hell of getting into NYADA. This makes Rcahel think about Kurt and how she betrayed him. Rachel tells Kurt she misses their friendship. He isn't having it. During the dodge ball game, the two teams sing a mash-up of Pat Benatar's "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" and Blondie's "One Way or Another." Albeit already winning, The Troubletones team up on Rory, giving him a bloody nose. Kurt comes to his defense. Mercedes suggests The Troubletones go with Adele. She tells Santana to lay off New Directions and nominates herself to be president. She gets the votes and Santana appears to lighten up. Santana approaches Finn to apologize, then proceeds to trash him for several minutes. She walks away and Finn yells the real reason she's acting this way is that she won't come out of the closet. She's in love with Brittany, and is terrified Brittany might not love her back. He calls her a coward for not admitting who she really is. After another over-the-top Sue attack on Burt, Burt is furious at Will for letting Sue get away with this. He wants to start fighting fire with fire. Puck seems to be getting comfortable with Beth. He proceeds to break down and reveals to Shelby what Quinn tried to do to get Beth taken away. He says he no longer considers Beth an accident and wants to be a part of her life. New Directions goes first in the mash-up; a combination of "I Can't Go for That" and "You Make My Dreams", complete with wigs and outfits. The senior class presidential speeches begin. A hockey player, Rick "The Stick" Nelson is first, promising teachers will have to answer to students. Brittany follows with a promise to go topless on Tuesdays. Kurt pledges to ban dodge ball at McKinley. This receives a modest response. Rachel withdraws her candidacy and urges everyone to vote for Kurt, the only non-negative candidate. Kurt asks Rachel why she did it. She thinks being president would put him over the top for acceptance into NYADA. She doesn't want to go unless he was there. Shelby says she isn't sure Quinn joining The Troubletones is a good idea. She confronts her about what it really means to be a mother. Quinn calls her a "cash whore" for giving up her child for money. Shelby tells her to leave. She wants Quinn nowhere near Beth, and says she hopes this is a wake-up call for her. Santana is called into Sue's office where Burt and Will are waiting. They tell her another candidate in the race has a niece who overheard her conversation with Finn. He is running an attack ad against Sue where he asks why she promoted a lesbian to be Cheerios captain and specifically identifies Santana. Santana becomes devastated.. She states she hasn't told her parents yet and run out of the room crying. The Troubletones perform a mash-up of "Rumour Has It" and "Someone Like You". Afterwards, seeing Finn whispering to Rachel, Santana jumps off the stage and yells at him for the fact everyone is going to know about her now. Everyone is shocked as Santana slaps him.

NEXT EPISODE: I Kissed A Girl- The Troubletones and New Directions come together to help Santana with her forced coming out. The two clubs are given the same assignment to sing songs empowering women. The senior class president election approaches and somebody is caught messing with the ballot which causes New Directions to have a major setback for Sectionals.

Season 3, Episode 5: THE FIRST TIME

Artie reveals that directing is his true passion. With the opening night of the musical coming up, Blaine and Rachel rehearse a scene and sing "Tonight." The other directors are impressed. Artie thinks the two of them lack passion and he asks them about their first sexual experience. They admit to being virgins. Artie tells them he's concerned it will impact their performance. Finn tells Rachel a recruiter from Ohio State will be coming to visit him. That doesn't seem to change her plans to attend the arts school in New York. His parents are going to be out of town. She is going to come over. Kurt and Blaine talk about how safe they're being sexually. Kurt seems worried they haven't "been all the way" yet. Blaine says he wants to make sure Kurt is comfortable about it when it eventually happens. Coach Beiste tells Artie she's a virgin also. She tells him she has the hots for an Ohio State recruiter named Mankins. Blaine goes back to Dalton Academy and watches a Warblers performance of Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl," even joining in. He got them tickets for West Side Story. Blaine meets a new guy, Sebastian, who asks him about leaving Dalton. Blaine says he misses Dalton, but McKinley is where his heart is. During this conversation we cut to Rachel and Santana singing "A Boy Like That." Sebastian says he would like to meet him again. Blaine agrees. Finn asks Puck for help choosing a condom. Puck says he doesn't use them. Mankins drops by the locker room and tells the team he'll be in the stands Friday night. Blaine asks Kurt if he thinks they should be more adventurous. Artie takes Mankins aside and tells him he needs to ask Beiste out again. Blaine and Sebastian have coffee. Sebastian seems interested in cheating. Blaine tells him he doesn't want to screw up what he has with Kurt. Kurt stops by and gets introduced. Sebastian suggests getting them both fake IDs and taking them to a gay bar. Kurt accepts, over Blaine's hesitation. Finn and Rachel toast to their four-month anniversary with sparkling cider. After dinner, they start to fool around. Rachel seems interested in going all the way. When she admits she wants to get it out of the way in time for the play, Finn is upset and leaves to get dessert. Mike's father has learned he lied to him and is appearing in the musical. He wants him to quit. Mike refuses. Mike assures him he will be a professional dancer and doesn't want to be a doctor. His father tells him if he doesn't quit he's no longer his son. Mankins brings Beiste some flowers and asks her out. Beiste doesn't think she's the kind of woman he'd be interested in. He says he thinks she's beautiful and says "Friday, after the game." Rachel tells some of the other girls she and Finn almost fooled around. Quinn, Santana and Brittany all think she should wait. Tina said it was a great experience "because I was with someone I loved." She says she and Mike knew that it was right. Kurt and Blaine go to the gay bar. It's drag queen night. Blaine and Sebastian dance together. Kurt runs into Karofsky at the bar. He's at a new school and says he feels accepted at places like that. They toast to baby steps. Kurt heads for the dance floor and starts grinding on Blaine. In the parking lot Blaine grabs Kurt and says he wants them to have sex right there. Kurt is offended Blaine is hammered and spent half the night dancing with another guy. Blaine walks home. Opening night arrives. Five minutes before the curtain raises. Artie begins to panic - he didn't do a very good job. The cast walks over, presents him with yellow roses, and thanks him for being so confident in his directing of their musical. He talks about being in a chair and what being a director did for him. We see the performance of "America." After the song, Blaine wonders to Rachel how they "as virgins" as supposed to top that. Rachel says they should tap into the fact Tony and Maria were soul mates who found one another against all odds. Since Rachel and Blaine both know what that's like. She says they'll be fine. After the performance, Blaine and Kurt talk on the empty stage. Blaine tells him Sebastian doesn't mean anything to him and their first time shouldn't be in the back of a car when one of them is drunk. Blaine invites him to an after party. Kurt says he wants them to go to his house indicating that they will have sex. Rachel shows up at Finn's door. He tells her the recruiter told him his football career will probably end in high school. He's devastated - his dreams are dead. Rachel says they'll figure out new dreams together. She tells Finn she was being stupid the other night and now is simply a girl with the boy she loves. Blaine and Kurt have sex as do Finn and Rachel. During the musical Blaine and Rachel think of their boyfriends as they sing "One Hand, One Heart."
