Season 1, Episode 19: DREAM ON

Figgins introduces Will to one of the school board members- Bryan Ryan. But Will and Bryan have already met. They were in the glee club together. Bryan was the older, cooler, hotter and better singer who got all the girls and made Will's life a nightmare. Bryan tells his story of how he ended up hitting the big time then ended up a nobody. Now he is on the school board and has come to bring glee down. Bryan tells the glee club their dreams will never work out and makes Tina cry. Will tells him to leave. Artie tells Tina he wish he could dance but he is stuck in a wheel chair. Tina offers to dance with him. Jesse returns from his spring break and he and Rachel make up. Jesse asks Rachel what is missing in her life. She says her mom and Jesse makes it his mission to make sure that hole in her heart is filled. Tina helps Artie to dance but he ends up yelling at her. Will tries to convince Bryan to not cancel the glee club. Bryan admits he had a crush on Terri and that he misses performing. Will suggests they both audition for Les Miserables. Tina does research on spinal cord injuries and there is treatment for it. She tells Artie to not give up hope. Rachel thinks her mother may be Patti LuPone which Jesse does not believe. They investigate by sneaking through files that contain information on Rachel's life that her two gay dads have kept. Jesse comes across a tape labeled 'From Mother To Daughter.' Rachel is scared to listen to the tape. Will and Bryan go to audition for the musical. The director asks them to do a duet because he is in a rush. Together they sing "Dream On." Artie day dreams of him singing and dancing "Safety Dance." Bryan decides to cut half of the Cheerios budget to save glee clubs because he has changed his mind. Sue gets mad and tells him that now days sports always loses to the arts and children need to be fit. The two of them then have an 'anger sex.' Jesse and Shelby are in Shelby's car where Shelby they are talking. It turns out that SHELBY IS RACHEL'S MOTHER! and that Jesse was sent to drive Rachel to Shelby. Jesse is starting to really love Rachel and does not want to hurt her. Shelby gave Rachel up for money to go to New York and be a star but It did not work out and Shelby is not able to contact Rachel until Rachel is 18. Rachel is Shelby's one and only regret. Emma tells Artie politely that treatment for walking will take many many years. This makes Artie even more upset. Bryan gives some of the Cheerios budget to the glee club and buys them new costumes. Until Sue congratulates Will as he got the part in Les Miserables. Bryan angrily takes everything back and cancels the club. Will gives up the part to Bryan and he allows the club to go on and then leaves to do the musical. Rachel listens to the tape. It is Shelby singing "I Dreamed A Dream" which Rachel sings along to. It ends in tears. Artie tells Tina to do the dance without him. He says he needs to focus on a dream that is possible. After Will tells the kids his sacrifice for the club they sing "Dream A Little Dream" on stage with Artie on lead.

NEXT EPISODE: Theatricality- Will gets the kids to get Theatrical as Regionals fast approaches. They use songs and costumes from Lady GaGa and Kiss. Burt and Kurt ask Carol and Finn to move in them. And Rachel and Shelby Finlay meet in a heartwarming reunion. But is this going to mean bad things for New Directions?

  4. I don't think that they could've chosen a better role for NPH.
    This episode did make me feel sorry for Artie and Rachel, but at least their dreams came true (even if it was in dream sequences).
